Frequently asked
Everything people ask us about finding purpose.
What is my purpose in life?
Your life purpose is the intersection of what gives you deep energy, what your DNA is wired for, and what the world needs from you. It is discoverable, not invented — and it usually hides in plain sight in the activities that already light you up.
How does the What Is My Purpose quiz work?
The quiz has three parts. First, you pick the activities that give you the most satisfaction. Then you map the Four Keys — which of your top activities give you hope, security, value, and connection. Finally, you write a short eulogy paragraph and list a few life goals. Our system scores your answers and blends them into a personalized purpose report.
How long does the purpose quiz take?
Most people finish in 8 to 12 minutes. There is no timer. You can save your place and come back later, and you can retake it whenever you like.
Is this the same as the original whatismypurpose.org?
Yes — this is the rebuilt, modernized version of the original quiz that has helped tens of thousands of people. The activity catalog, the Four Keys framework, and the ancestral validation scoring are all preserved. What is new: a cleaner interface, a personalized AI-generated report, and mobile-first design.
What is the Four Keys framework?
Four things a purpose activity can fill you up with: Hope (a sense that tomorrow will be better), Security (feeling strong and able to thrive), Value (feeling important to yourself and others), and Connection (feeling part of something bigger). Activities that fulfill all four are the closest thing to your true purpose.
Why do you ask about my ancestors?
A significant amount of what gives you deep satisfaction is programmed by the generations behind you. If an activity gives you satisfaction AND gave one of your parents or grandparents satisfaction, that is a much stronger signal than it being a personal preference alone. If you do not know their answers, you can skip — it just makes the report a little less validated.
Is the quiz free?
Yes. The quiz and the personalized AI-generated report are free. If you want to go deeper — a full guided program to actually live your purpose — Break the Locks is available separately.
What do I get in the report?
A one-sentence purpose statement written for you. Your top three purpose themes with what each one means for how you live and work. An alignment analysis comparing your themes to your eulogy and goals. Your Four Keys signature. One concrete next step to start living it this week. And a short callings-and-warnings section on what to say yes to and what to say no to.
Can I share my report?
Yes. Your report page has a private link you can bookmark, share, or save as a PDF. We do not display any user reports publicly.
What data do you store?
We store your quiz answers, your generated report, your email address, and basic technical details (IP, browser type, referring page) for security and analytics. See our privacy policy for the full picture.
Will you spam me?
No. We will email you your report and — if you opt in — occasional emails about Break the Locks. Unsubscribe with one click.
Is this scientifically valid?
The quiz draws on decades of work in vocational psychology, values-alignment coaching, and legacy-thinking exercises used by grief and life coaches. It is a reflection tool, not a diagnostic instrument. Its value comes from the quality of the questions — every one is designed to surface a signal you already carry.
What if I already know my purpose?
Retake the quiz. Purpose gets sharper the more you clarify it. Most people who feel like they know their purpose actually know their current work — the specific expression. Purpose is usually broader and older.
Can I retake the quiz later?
Yes, any time. Your report is bookmark-able, and you can start fresh whenever your life changes enough that you want a re-read.
How do you use AI in the report?
We compute your top themes deterministically from your answers — the AI does not decide your top themes. We then pass those themes, your eulogy paragraph, and your goals to a language model with a strict prompt that instructs it to write the personalized report and forbids it from making up biographical facts about you.
